ATLANTICO PROMOTES ENERGY FUTURE IN ANGOLA

12/06/2019

Banco Millennium Atlântico, in partnership with Aenergy and other international operators, is promoting new forms of financing for relevant projects in the energy sector in Angola. These efforts have been conducted during the most important global meeting on energy, the Africa Energy Forum, taking place this week in Lisbon.

As the financial institution with the greatest focus on the development of energy projects in Africa, and in particular in Angola, ATLANTICO brought together this week, in Lisbon, global operators of high importance in the sector. The meeting, aligned with the agenda of the Africa Energy Forum, brought together companies, investors and energy specialists and the main objective was to create conditions in the near future for the financing of structuring projects, essential for the economic development of the African continent, and in particular Angola, thus overcoming one of the biggest challenges in the sector.

ATLANTICO has been one of the most relevant institutions in supporting the development of this area of activity. Among the projects financed is the construction of the Laúca Dam, a hydroelectric plant located on the Kwanza River, between the provinces of Malanje and Kwanza Sul, whose construction began in 2012. When Laúca is fully operational, it will be the largest dam in Angola.

For Daniel Santos, CEO of ATLANTICO, "the Bank has, for some time, been mobilizing a number of investors with the aim of encouraging them to invest in the energy sector in Angola. Given the recent changes in the regulatory framework and the growing interest and availability of these private and multilateral entities to invest in Angola, and also the relevance of investment in this sector for the country's development, we believe that this forum may result in expressions of interest that allow the beginning of the structuring of innovative forms of investment, with greater involvement from the private sector.", he concludes.

ATLANTICO's association with this international forum resulted from the bank's longstanding work to mobilize investors interested in investing in Angola's energy sector, one of the most structuring for the development of the country's economy.
